Mindfulness Meditation brings balance and resilience to the aging process and supports healthy brain functionality. Working skillfully with our minds, we are able to ease the stresses of aging, bringing peace of mind to ourselves and our relationships.
Objectives:
- Practice and Experience mindfulness.
- Understand how mindfulness supports aging and health.
- Gain mastery over our intentional resources.

Nov 10 - Dec 8 @ ASC Classroom.
Roots and evolution of music from 1960 through 1990. Blues, jazz, modern rock, British Invasion, hard rock, disco, country rock, heavy metal, pop, grunge, alternative rock and boy bands.
Objectives:
- Review musical styles and the evolution of music over the decades.
- Explore historic events during each decade.
- Discover how the music of the time influenced each decade.

Sept 9– Nov 10 @ ASC Classroom.
Each week a different local published author will either present their work, provide an interactive writing activity for attendees or address topics about writing. This is an opportunity to rub shoulders with local established writers while learning their journey of writing craft and inspiration.
Objectives:
- Exposure to published, established writers of fiction and non- fiction and hear their works in person.
- Learn techniques that have been helpful to create literary the works of these authors.
- An opportunity to experiment with hands on writing devices with experienced writers and receive feedback.

Many questions abound about what Autism is and how to understand it and this will be answered in this informative class by John and his wife, who have extensive experience working with the autistic and disabled population. During the 3 week class, addressing both factual information and the complexity of having family and friends experiencing autism and disability will be covered.
Objectives:
- To understand the actual definition of autism and disability as experienced by many people today.
- To gain an understanding of how to best interact with persons experiencing autism and disability.
- To expand the meaning of human experience in our lives.
Seth Tichenor - Fridays 10am to 12pm: 11 weeks
Sept 26 to Dec 12 @ ASC Classroom.
This course looks at the origin, character and legacy of Chinese thought. It covers Chinese thought from antiquity, through “The Hundred Schools” period, and up until the fifth century A.D., when Buddhism began to exert significant influence in China. It will also look at the history of Chinese thought through a comparative lens, comparing and contrasting classical Chinese philosophies with those of other cultures.
Objectives:
- Review of Chinese thought from antiquity to 5th Century A.D.
- To address the influence of philosophy born in China throughout China and possibly the world.
- To illuminate the differences and similarities of Chinese philosophies and those of other world cultures.
Erik Jensen - Friday 2pm to 4pm: 6 weeks
Sept 26 to Nov 14 @ ASC Classroom.
This course will start by defining what Blue Zones are, how they came about and how we can learn lessons from the lifestyle effects that create healthy and long lived persons. The impact of life experience will be explored and how this effects outlook on life and the aging process. The concept that aging can be a potentially healthy state of life and how to achieve health explored.
Objectives:
- Understanding key features of aging and how to mitigate these features.
- Ability to list healthy behaviors that promote life while aging.
- Understanding Blue Zones and the lessons learned by studying those populations for a positive healthy lifestyle.
