ENCORE offers short-term courses, which are usually taught by members, but also by visiting college faculty or other experts in their field, cover a wide range of topics, including science, health, art, music, literature, history, writing, religion, and current events.

. . . just plenty of enjoyment, enrichment, and friendship! ENCORE provides life-long learning opportunities for older students. The classes are offered in partnership with Clatsop Community College.

Preregistration for ENCORE classes is not necessary. Just come to class. Invite your friends! Anyone interested in the ENCORE experience may “try a class for free”! Two sessions may be enjoyed at no cost or obligation. We know they’ll want more!

ENCORE is an association of retirement-age people who share a love of learning. Established in 2001 by a steering committee of retired adults, ENCORE was originally sponsored by Clatsop Community College. Now ENCORE Learn is an independent charitable organization registered as a 501(c)(3) run entirely by its members.

ENCORE is a membership organization open to adults 50 year of age or older who enjoy intellectual stimulation and the opportunity to meet new friends. Dues are paid annually, entitling members to enroll in any of the ENCORE courses. The only additional fees may be minimal costs for class materials.

ENCORE holds classes both on and off campus at many locations in Astoria, Warrenton, and Seaside. Classes follow the Clatsop Community College quarterly schedule if possible. The majority of our courses are offered at the Senior Center, 1111 Exchange Street in Astoria.

ENCORE provides life-long learning opportunities for older adults. Members decide what they want to learn and how they want to learn it. They conduct their own classes, invite guest speakers, discuss current events, read books and plays, and keep their minds active. Social events include a Holiday “Bash”, monthly “Lunch Bunch” get-togethers at local restaurants, and often exciting, interesting trips that always have an educational component. Membership includes a quarterly Class Act Newsletter sent to all members and available here.

ENCORE membership includes a Clatsop Community College Library card for the asking. The library uses a list of ENCORE members to issue a card which is good for all library services including inter-library loans, participation in the Oregon Library Ass’n Passport Program, and use of the computers in the library reference area. A CCC library card allows one to get a Passport card at the Astoria Public Library.

The ENCORE membership year is from July 1 through June 30. New and renewing members pay $50 a year. Payment of dues qualifies members to attend as many classes as they’d like. Usually there are five to ten classes from which to choose.

Scholarships Are Available. In order to include all interested participants in ENCORE activities, financial help for ENCORE membership and class materials is available. Contact ENCORE’s President, Dave Zunkel, at 503-861-8539 for more information. Everything is held in confidence.
