Writing Exchange

Fall 2020’s Writing Exchange Online Course to begin Tuesday, September 29 (and run 8 weeks till Tuesday, November 17) from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m.

Is a story or poem inside of you trying to get out? Our friendly group, beginners and experienced, focuses on encouraging writers via constructive feedback. Take part in our enthusiasm for writing. Come listen or share!

Q: I am a beginning and/or shy writer. I’m interested in the idea of improving my writing, but also somewhat wary. What do you recommend? (signed) Not Quite Stephen King

A: Good question, Stephen! Our writing group’s key function is to provide you with constructive, honest feedback to help you improve. As a writer, you need at least three things on a regular basis: encouragement, constructive feedback, and a series of self-imposed deadlines. On Tuesday mornings at 9:45, we aim to deliver on those three items. See you then!

Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream by Doris Kearns Goodwin (there are 3 editions 1976, 1991 and 2019 . . . the 2019 version has a new forward)

Group discussion of the book describing the rise and fall of the President remembered, perhaps, more for Vietnam and riots in the cities than for the Great Society programs he sponsored.

The first class discussions will be on Chapter 1 (Growing Up) and Chapter 2 (Education and the Dream of Success)

Humanist Discussions

An ENCORE discussion group will be held on Friday mornings: October 2nd to November 20th. We will meet on Zoom. The class time is 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. You may log onto Zoom after 9:30 a.m. Since this class is held on the internet, I do limit attendance to registered participants to avoid hecklers. Participants may register by sending an email request to me: todlundy@gmail.com. You need to register only once. I will email a Zoom invitation to registered participants on the day before classes.

These discussions will provide an opportunity to explore many views on selected topics such as “Anxiety in these times” and “Thoughts are Language”.

Each topic will be introduced with a brief explanation followed by TED talks on the topic. Discussion usually is laced into these presentations and continues after the TED talks.
