Dendrology (tree identification science)
Friends of Trees,
At its last monthly meeting, the ENCORE Board of Directors discussed how our organization can best move forward while COVID is still governing much of what we do in our private as well as institutional lives.
Reta Lindstrom, longtime and vital chairperson of our Curriculum Committee, called me last Monday evening to consider the status of our first attempt at fielding an in-person class that I had proposed for the purpose of getting our classes diversified.
Many of our members have expressed an interest in my Dendrology class. Since the majority of our members likely has had both of their COVID shots, the latest CDC directives tell us that we can relax a bit as far as our outdoor activities are concerned.
Elfi and I will have no trouble accommodating 20 and even 30 persons. However, if it’s raining, our two-car garage would impose slightly limited seating, but with both doors open, we’re still essentially outside.
Although we’ve hardly ever required registration, and I have told the people who have written to me about being put on the class list to just come to the classes; however, I must now ask all prospective members to send me an email. Elfi and I need to know how many chairs to provide.
Since ENCORE is now self-insured, a list of names will also give us an idea of the required coverage. Other than that, I’m looking forward to sharing with you in advance that not every needle tree is a Christmas tree.
Erhard
